Some Dolls I Know

My goal is to document all of the full size dolls that I make. Some of them get boxed and shipped before I get the camera out. Here is a little guy that wasn't camera shy.


Here are a few other dolls I know. Olivia is my 16 year old daughter. She takes her own photos. All of her pictures are at arms length.



This is my 15 year old daughter Julia. A bit stylin' in this photo. She is a great cook and a fanatic about her felines.



This is a picture of my daughter Amber. She is sneakin' up on 27 really fast. She is an amazing artist and illustrator. She has recently taken up sewing as well. She is with her darling sisters Olivia and Julia. They all live at home and have me outnumbered.

Late Night Fun

This smock set has been begging to be made for some time now. I could deny it no longer. One late night and Voila! Jolly Smock!






The fabrics are a wonderfully soft, cotton woven stripe from Moda and 100% linen. The scarf is backed with a Ralph Lauren brushed viscose that feels like cashmere. I don't even know anyone this size so it is NO LONGER available here

Now back to my regularly scheduled sewing projects.

Staying on Track and Show and Tell

URGH!! Why can't I find a self cleaning desk? My oven can do it. Even my iron can do it. I want my desk to catch on and do it too. I find my level of enthusiasm for what I do is in direct proportion to how clean my desk and workspace is. I spent a bit of time cleaning and organizing today and now I can feel my creative juices flowing again.

Now for show and tell. This is the coolest clothing stand ever.





I got it in a trade with Brian's Woodshop. I also have a stand that fits children's clothes. I've needed a stand for my doll's clothing so I can photograph it. The disk on the top is a hat stand. I love, love, love it!

Speaking of hats. I pulled out my very lonely knitting needles over the holidays and made this:



It is my cheaters version of the Hudson Hat. I love this pattern and it's designed to use up those small left over balls of yarn. I used smaller needles than recommended and worked fewer rounds as well. This one is doll size and soon I'll make a doll and clothing to go with it. I love the colors and the overall look. My knitting needles are safely put away and probably won't appear until Christmas 2008.

Moondrops for Valentine's?

So I'm on my way to the airport.....

......to pick up my 15 year old daughter and I have a little extra time. I live on an island and when I'm on the mainland I try to get a lot done. Thrift stores are pretty high on my "time well spent" list. I went to Value Village and found surprisingly little. Then I went to Goodwill with fairly low expectations because I rarely find any treasures there. Well today was my lucky day! I found this red box in, of all places, the sporting goods section.




Oh please! Oh Please! Don't let the case be empty! Yeah! This was in it.




That's right. A Bernina 830 sewing machine. I check to see if it has all of it's parts. It does. Accessory case and all. I head for the cash register, pay and get it tucked away safely in my car.
I have to say at this point that I have sewn on the same Bernina 930 for 21 years now. I have been wanting a back up machine and I thought an older Bernina would be a good investment. I keep an eye on machines on Ebay but I never bid. A 25 year old machine sells now for what it sold for then. They are a bit out of my price range.
The "Goodwill find of the century!" was well within my price range.




Yup! $24.99. I ran it through it's paces when I got home and it works beautifully!.
I am a lucky girl!

A Little Valentine Lovin'

While I'm (still) wrapping up my holiday orders, I thought I'd get a jump on a few little Valentiney goodies. Love Note Moondrops and their Valentine purses will be available soon in my Etsy shop

These Moondrops are just over 5" tall and have a hand dyed felt heart pocket stitched on their tummies. It comes with a blank "Love Note" for you to write in. The Moondrop will also make a wonderful Tooth Fairy doll. The snug little pocket will hold a fallen tooth and is big enough for a little gift to be inserted.
The shoulder bag is an Alexander Henry print from the mid 90's and is lined with white cotton. The strap is 30" long.
These little guys will be available by the 10th of Jan.

Now accepting Orders for February

With Christmas orders getting wrapped up (that's right, I'm still working on them!), I am now open for orders to be delivered in February. If you are interested in ordering a doll or two, send me an e-mail and I will go over the process with you. I am limiting the number of customs in any given month and this is on a first come first served basis. If you would like to be scheduled in a month beyond February, this is also the time to snag those spots. The Year I get my education in the classics (Movies that is)

Well... it dawned on me a while back that I have seen very few movies that would be considered "one of the classics". So this year begins my foray into cinematic history. I found the American Film Institute's Top 100 movies list. Starting with Citizen Kane, I will wind my way through the list with a few jaunts off path into some foreign films. I would love to know what your favorite MUST SEE classic movies are. I'll make a list here that chronicles my travel through time in cinemaland.
